I knew I need to find a quick fix remedy to be ready by tomorrow morning. Suddenly, I remembered my childhood days when my mother used to put me on juices to overcome sore throat. I rang up mom for a cure.
She suggested a number of juice recipes starting with ginger, pineapple, cranberries, blueberries, blackcurrants, garlic, watermelon, cucumber, etc. These homemade juices are easy to prepare and natural remedies to sore throat, cold and cough.

Ginger Juice For Sore Throat
Not only is ginger the most commonly available kitchen vegetable but it has got huge medicinal value because of the richness of minerals in it. Ginger’s anti-inflammatory property makes it one of the most sought-after ingredients to fight sore throat, cold and cough. Moreover, it’s antibacterial property helps to keep throat infections at large. It also acts as a decongestant. Ginger mixed with honey becomes a potent combination to instantly fight sore throat, cold, cough, and flu-like symptoms overnight.

Recipe for Ginger Juice
There are few ways in which Ginger Juice can be prepared easily depending on the available ingredients at home
Method 1
Ingredients: 3-inch fresh ginger, 1 fresh lime/lemon, honey
Preparation:
- Wash the vegetables properly in water.
- Peel the skin of the ginger, cut it into small pieces and put it in the vegetable juicer and extract the juice.
- Use a strainer and run the extracted juice through it. Collect the juice in a cup.
- Next cut the fresh lime into two halves and squeeze the juice. Run the extract through the strainer to remove the seeds and remains of the pulp.
- Now add three tablespoons (tsp) of lime juice and three tablespoons (tsp) of honey to the ginger juice and mix it well.
- Our remedial syrup is ready.
Dosage: Sip it whenever your throat feels itchy and irritable for quick relief
Method 2
Ingredients: 3-inch ginger, honey, vinegar, black pepper, turmeric, and water
Preparation
- Remove the skin from the fresh ginger root. Cut it into small pieces and put inside the juicer.
- Collect the juice and run it through the strainer to remove any pulp or skin. We can use a larger piece of ginger depending upon our requirements.
- Now we need to take 2 teaspoons (tsp) of ginger juice in a cup, add 1 tsp of vinegar to it followed by 1 tsp of honey, a pinch of black pepper and turmeric powder.
- Finally, we add 3-4 tablespoons (tbsp) of water to the mixture and our syrup is ready.
Dosage: At least once a day
Method 3
Ingredients: Around 1-2 inch ginger, honey, and black pepper powder
Preparation of ‘Kadha’
Kadha is one of the age-old recipes used in the Indian sub-continent by grandmothers and mothers for fast relief from sore throat.
Run the finely grated ginger through the juicer to squeeze out a sufficient quantity of ginger juice. Use a strainer to collect only the juice excluding all else. Add 1 tablespoon (tbsp) of honey and black pepper to it. Our medicine is ready.
Consumption: 2 to 3 times a day depending upon the pain and irritation
Pineapple Juice For Sore Throat
Pineapple juice is one of the best fruit juices for sore throat and cold. A mixture of enzymes called Bromelain available in the pineapple makes it highly effective fruit for sore throat and pain. It has got anti-inflammatory properties which helps in fighting inflammation. The rich presence of nutrients in the pineapple not only helps to cause a soothing effect but it also helps in dissolving the mucus present in the throat and throwing it out. Thus it acts as a decongestant too.

- Single/1 medium-size fresh pineapple
- Around 2-4 pieces of ginger
- A quarter (1/4) tablespoon (tsp) of black salt
- Half lime/lemon for 1 tablespoon (tbsp) of lime/lemon juice

Preparation
- First, we need to prepare the pineapple by removing the outer layer. Then we need to cut the small regular pieces.
- Keep the pineapple pieces in the blender jar

- Add the lime juice followed by honey
- Blend the mixture till it comes to even density
- Use a strainer and pour the juice through it to remove any remaining pulp
- Pour the juice into a glass or glasses
Dosage/Consumption: Drink a quarter (1/4) cup of the juice up to three (3) times a day. For best results, the drink should be taken over a period of 3 to 4 days
Carrot, Beet, Orange, Ginger & Turmeric Juice
This is a juice prepared including four basic root vegetables that develop our immune systems and have anti-inflammatory properties which are very useful to fight against sore throat, cold, flu and cough. The juice is high on vitamin A, C, E, Iron, and Calcium. High on energy and heat it soothes the throat and eases congestion.

- One medium-sized beetroot
- Three (3) medium-sized carrots
- 1 medium-sized orange
- A 1-inch piece of fresh ginger
- Half a lemon
- 2-inch piece of turmeric or approximately 10 gm (if turmeric is not readily available then 1 tsp of organic ginger powder can be used instead)
- Pinch of black pepper
- Pinch of cayenne pepper
Preparation
- Wash all the vegetables properly
- Peel off the outer layer of the beet with a peeler and chop it into regular small pieces

- Remove the rind, pith, and seeds of the lemon
- Peel off the skin of the fresh ginger
- Similarly, peel off the skin of the turmeric
- Put the vegetables and fruits inside the juicer and add black and cayenne pepper into it
- Run the juicer till the mixture attains the consistency
- Pour it out into glasses
Dosage: Consume fresh once a day
Note: If you have a masticating juicer at your disposal then you can store the juice in an airtight container or keep it cool in a refrigerator and use it even up to 3 days
Cranberry Juice For Sore Throat
Cranberry like all other berries is highly alkaline, anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory in nature. These properties help in fighting a sore throat, infections and cold.

Cranberry juice can be prepared at home in the following ways.
Stove-top method
Ingredients:
- 8 cups of fresh or frozen cranberries
- 4 cups of water
- Half (1/2) or 1 cup of sugar or sweetener as applicable
- ½ cup of lemon juice
- ½ cup of orange juice (could be optional)
Preparation
- Put the cranberries and water in a pot and bring it to boil
- Once it reaches the boiling stage then let it simmer for another 20 minutes. This will enable the berries to pop open and the water turns red in color
- We can use a strainer and sieve the mixture to remove the berries
- Now we put the juice on the stove again and add sugar or sweetener to it
- Stir it till the sugar gets completely dissolved
- Add lemon and orange juice to it
- Put off the stove and take down the juice
- Pour the juice in a pitcher and let it cool
Preparation time: 35 minutes + cooling time
Dosage: 8 ounces or around 226 grams thrice daily
Blending
Ingredients:
- 2 cups of cranberries
- 2 cups of water
- Honey
- 1 ½ cup of lemon or orange juice
Preparation
- Put the cranberries and water in a blender
- Blend on High for about two (2) minutes
- Blend it till no more pieces of berries are left in the blender
- Use a fine-mesh sieve as a strainer and extract the juice only
- Stir it in lemon or orange juice (this is especially to get rid of the tangy flavor or else you can have it as is)
- Add honey as required to add sweetness to the drink
Preparation Time: 10 minutes
Dosage: 8 ounces or around 226 grams thrice daily
Black currant Juice
Blackcurrant is known for its anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties. This makes it a good choice for sore throat treatment.

- Boil the water
- Takedown the hot water and pour the blackcurrants in the saucepan of hot water
